Countries around the world begin to face the problem of population aging with the development of science, technology and medical care, especially in rural areas in Taiwan. These middle-aged and elderly people live in seclusion, lack opportunities to communicate with the outside world, and gradually become disconnected from society. In addition, in recent years, social events have occurred frequently, showing that modern people are uneasy and lacking patience and empathy. They should find appropriate channels to reduce stress and improve the quality of life. In March, 2003, Dharma Drum Mountain Community University was formally established. With the purpose of combining the needs of the community and living up community activities, it opened up a lifelong learning channel for local residents, and cultivated a group of Erhu class students to form the "Beihai Erhu Chinese Music Band", providing local residents with a platform to "play" music. In the process of learning, band rehearsal, and music performance, the band members have gone from not being able to perform at all to being able to perform on stage. In addition to gaining happiness and sense of achievement from music, they began to participate in community affairs and promote Chinese music. The footprints of their performance for social welfare are all over Northern Taiwan, and they hope to bring the power of goodness to the society with music. This study discusses the current situation of band members' music learning and performance, and the impact of participating in the community band on interpersonal relationships, via the case study of Beihai Erhu Chinese Music Band in Meitian Community of Jinshan District, New Taipei City. This study employed relevant literature review, participant observation and interview survey to carry out data collection and analysis, via the case study interview of six members of the Beihai Erhu Chinese Music Band and seven outsiders, discussing and analyzing the characteristics of band, interpersonal communication and improvement, and members' music fulfillment. The results of this study showed that, there’s significant improvement in members’ interpersonal relationships through the participation in the community music group. The band, as the platform for musical instrument learning, interpersonal relationship development, social welfare promotion and community building, plays an important role in the process of members’ learning, band rehearsal, music performance and self-fulfillment. Further, because of the participation in the band, the members gain momentum from both of musical instruments learning and interpersonal relationships development, and then keep moving forward. Finally, this study puts forward suggestions for the competent authority, the community and the members of the case band and for follow-up related research, looking forward to providing reference for community music groups and related research in Taiwan. | URI: | https://ir.dila.edu.tw//handle/123456789/1202 |
